Benefits of Using an Instant Pot
You might be asking yourself why you would need an Instant Pot when you already have so many kitchen appliances. Here are the biggest Instant Pot benefits we've identified:
Ease of Use
Stovetop pressure cookers are notoriously difficult to use and have more safety risks than their electric counterparts. With an Instant Pot, just a few buttons will allow you to set your pressure level and cook time. No need to watch over it while it cooks.
Feel free to toss your old appliances when the Instant Pot moves in. Beyond its slow cooking abilities, it can also sauté, steam, rice cook, and warm. The more expensive models can do even more!
Since Instant Pots have become so popular, a simple search online will turn up millions of great recipes and how-tos. We've even seen owners make wine in their Instant Pot!
You only have so much available counter space in your kitchen. The Instant Pot takes up less space than a slow cooker and fits easily into most cupboards.
Instant Pot Features
There's a lot to love about the Instant Pot, so we've narrowed down our favorite features:
This might seem obvious, but it's what the Instant Pot is best at. Prepare stews, meat, grains, and so much more at a fraction of the time it takes to cook on a stove top. In our test kitchen, we prepared an entire barbecue feast in a few hours.
We love using the Instant Pot for turning out enough food to freeze and save for later. Our favorite things to make in mass: rice, pork shoulder, and chili.
Many electric pressure cookers use plastic bowls, but we love the durability and safety of using stainless steel. Plus, it's dishwasher-safe—making cleanup a breeze.
If you haven't tried making homemade yogurt yet, you're missing out. It's healthier and cheaper than store-bought containers. The Instant Pot can keep the temperature low enough to safely produce delicious, creamy yogurt.
Q. What sizes of Instant Pots are available?
A. As of right now, there are three different sizes available: 3-quart, 6-quart and 8-quart. We've found that most families of four are happy with the 6-quart, while larger households will prefer the eight.
Q. What are the differences between the different models of Instant Pot?
A. The LUX models have the fewest number of programs available (six), while the Ultras have the most (10). Unless you want every option available, we think the DUO is the best for most people. It has nine programs, including one for making yogurt.
Q. What are the best recipes to try as a beginner Instant Pot user?
A. Any soup or stew is easy to make in an Instant Pot! Just toss in all the ingredients, fresh or frozen, and use the Stew function. Once you've mastered that, we suggest trying out a pulled pork recipe.
